Get faster with numbers
Numeric entry rewards careful rhythm. Read the full group, keep leading zeros, and check the decimal before moving to the next field.
Learn the number layout
Use whichever physical number layout you have available. If you use a number pad, find the raised marker on the 5 key and return to a comfortable starting position. Do a short practice session before increasing your pace. Laptop number-row results are still useful personal practice.
Preserve meaningful zeros
A reference such as 00481 is text, not an amount. Enter every digit, including the two leading zeros. Treat invoice numbers, staff IDs and payment references as exact strings. A spreadsheet may remove those zeros if its cells are formatted as numbers.
Group without guessing
Read 12540 as a small sequence, such as 12 and 540, but verify the final value against the source. Swapped adjacent digits are easy to overlook. Compare from left to right, then check the length. Do not rely on how familiar a number looks.
Practise under matching conditions
Start with a 60-second number test. Repeat on the same keyboard and duration. Keep numeric entry separate from prose typing when comparing results. Office field rates use whole correct fields per minute, which cannot be compared directly with typing WPM.
